TMS320F2800157: IcePick_C_0 Error connecting to the target: (Error -2131 @ 0x0)

Hi,

I'm at a loss on how to fix my current error with my two LAUNCHXL F2800157. I've been using them both for a while with CCS 20.4.1 and now both show the following error:

Texas Instruments XDS110 USB Debug Probe/IcePick_C_0 Error connecting to the target: (Error -2131 @ 0x0) Unable to access device register. Reset the device, and retry the operation. If error persists, confirm configuration, power-cycle the board, and/or try more reliable JTAG settings (e.g. lower TCLK). (Emulation package 20.4.0.3835)

I have verified that I can read/flash each board with UniFlash 9.3.0.5401. Because they are fully visible to UniFlash it would appear there's no issue with the XDS110 on the boards. How would I attempt to find out what is stopping CCS from allowing me to download/debug these boards?

Hi Brennan,

In my attempt to resolve the target connection, I found:

My system does not offer the update to 20.5 that is currently available.
Two of my projects get this error. I created a new lab_blinkyled_driverlib for the f280015x that will allow me to get into debug it but has the incorrect LED GPIOs. Fixed those in device.h, but still not seeing the LEDs blink.

How would I clean my two projects references to get them to debug, given I've established its some reference in them that's got them stopped? I'm still concerned that even debugging the LED project still isn't working.

Can you elaborate on what you mean by this? The CCS20.5 download causes error?

If I select Help - Check for updates, all the packages I have installed are shown, but CCS20.5 is not show as being available as an update.

I was thinking of re-installing everything, but after I proved that the LED project started partially working, left me uneasy with the reinstall approach.

I would reinstall CCS and ensure it is v20.5. This will ensure all files/dependencies are up to date.

Hi Brennan,

The reload did the trick. Found that the LED project I used was for the CC and not the LP. Once I used the LP version, all the LEDs started working.

Figured that my Visual Studio 2026 may have caused CCS 20.4 to get messed up as both may be intertwined. Anyway, we've got 20.5 working.
