TMS320F280025: ePWM module's power consumption

Hi Champs,

In the datasheet of the MCU, it says that each HRPWM module consumes about 0.87mA.

In the app note "Hardware Design Guide for F2800x C2000™ Real-Time MCU Series", there is an example of power consumption calculation:

Just ignore the wrong unit in formular 7 (should be in mA instead of A), why didn't we take PWM frequency into account?

In the other words, does it mean the PWM modules' power consumption doesn't depend on the switching frequency? Is it because the differences small so we can remove to make it simple?

Hi Kien,

The frequency depended power consumption for the PWM peripheral is small compared to steady state power consumption. In the example given in application note, power consumption is also calculated for two GPIO pins toggling at 200kHz with a typical load of 10pF. The power requirement for this is calculated as:

2 × 200k × 10p × 3.3^2 = 43.5uW.

This additional power is small compared to the steady state power of 3.3*0.87mA = 2.87mW.

Therefore, frequency dependency is ignored for power calculation of EPWM.
