TMS320F280037C: LINA for SCIB and X1 input

Hello support.

I have not had chance to use LIN and noticed it can be used as a SCI peripheral. Lin.c was causing some compile issues and excluded it from the buiild, but curosity compels me to rethink that move.

Q1: Can LINA be used as SCIB since the only SCIB pins overlap X1 and X2 external oscillator pins?

Q2: If X1 input provides a 20mHz clock source from another TI MCU class via DIVSCLK output, does the X1 GPIO 19 need to be configured OD on either MCU?

Thank you.

  • Hi,

For LIN, it is easily able to be used as SCI by calling the LIN_enableSCIMode() function. Do note that this doesn't override an existing SCI module and instead could be considered a third SCI module. Using LIN in this mode has its own limitations so recommend to refer to the TRM for specific information regarding this. In the Lin.c/.h there are specific APIs which apply to LIN in SCI mode so do make note of those

For Q2, there is no need to configure the GPIO specifically, you would select the XTAL option from the SysCtl_selectOscSource and then that would itself configure the GPIO to accept the clock input without requiring additional configuration

  • you would select the XTAL option from the SysCtl_selectOscSource

    Hi Peter,

Thank you for this very quick response.

It seems to be working after setting a w option SE configuration disabling the XTAL mode the PLL shifted away from OSC2 to X1 input. At least the LED blink rate in the main while loop seems to be toggling at the same rate as it did on x39c 120mHz SYSCLK.

instead could be considered a third SCI module

I will refer to the TRM text how to poll the LINA_RX input for serial data at same baud rate and FIFO mode as SCIB_RX did on x39c, is that possible?

  • Hi,

For polling mode, you can call functions similar to LIN_isSCIDataAvailable() and LIN_readSCICharNonBlocking()

API guide is available here: https://software-dl.ti.com/C2000/docs/C2000_driverlib_api_guide/f28003x/build/html/modules/lin.html
