TMS320F28P650DK: Difference between build configuration CPU1_RAM ,CPU1_FLASH_EVAL and CPU1_FLASH

Part Number: TMS320F28P650DK
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: C2000WARE

Hello All,

Iam working with TMS320F28P650DK micrcontroller, during build configuration i come accross

CPU1_RAM ,CPU1_FLASH_EVAL and CPU1_FLASH could any one explain how these build configurations impact memory layout.

Thanks and Regards

Narasimhaj

  • Hi Narsimha,

Each of the different build configurations uses a different linker command file to do the memory allocation for the program. Can you tell me which specific example you are referring to? Please provide the c2000ware version and the path to the example.

    Thanks,

    Ira

  • Hello Ira,

Thanks for the reply, my CCS version 20.4.1.4__1.10.1 with C2000Ware_6_00_01_00 installed on windows 11.

My question is not specific to any example but in general how these build configurations will work, does every time a different linker file will load? where can i find these linker updates.

    Thanks in advance

    Narasimhaj

  • Hi Narsimha,

The cmd file should be included as a part of the project when you import a project from c2000ware. It will have the extension .cmd like so

You can inspect the 2 linker cmd files (generic_ram and generic_flash) and see that they place the .text section in different parts of memory.

If you want to see how the linker files map to different build configuraitons, yuo can inspect the .projectspec file of any c2000ware example. You can open the .projectspec file in a text editor and you'll see these settings. They decide which linker cmd file maps to which build configuration. For you reference see the below image.

    Thanks,

    Ira
