[FAQ] F29H859TU-Q1: Hardware Security Module's Software is immutable or not?

Part Number: F29H859TU-Q1

The datasheet, however, does not explicitly state whether:

  1. The HSM firmware is factory-programmed and immutable? Or
  2. User-updatable? Or
  3. Partially user-programmable with TI root services remaining protected?

Please clarify above and provide any additional documentation you have.

  • Hi Satish,

The main HSM deliverables from TI are as follows:

    1. OTP Key Writer
    2. TIFS-SDK

For security reasons the OTP KeyWriter Ram based HSM firmware is immutable as it is provided in an encrypted binary format with TI Keys for secure Key Provisioning of the device. This is used to transition the device from HSFS to HSKP state.
More information about this can be found in the README in the OTP KeyWriter package available in secure resources on ti.com after approval.

The TIFS-SDK is completely user-updatable, we provide the source code for the HSM Firmware in TIFS-SDK.
More information about this can be found in the README in the TIFS-SDK package also available in the secure resources on ti.com after approval.

For in-depth information particular to the HSM in F29x, you can take a look at the HSM User's Guide.

    Thanks and Regards,
    Aditya Singal
