Hi,

My query is about the part F29P580DM5SPZSR.

I am from ARM Cortex-M background. For oru project we are searching for right part to satisfy our needs. Based on the part unmber nomenclature, tentatively we selected one MCU F29P580DM5SPZSR. Regarding this, I have few questions in my mind, would appreciate your respone.

Since, this part's Architecture is different from the Cortex-M, what is the difference in terms of code size of F29P580DM5SPZSR when compared to Cortex-M archicheture? Is it High or Low or same? If high or Low, how much percentage?
Suggest the development board for this part.
For undertading the memory placements in the RAM more clearly, could you please share MAP file and Linker configurable files of any sample project?
C29x executes the code from Flash (please confirm)
Since the datasheet is common for many of the family groups, could you please provide the list of peripherals and capabilities for this part alone?

The datasheet is the best place to get started as it lists all the relevant information for the F29x device series in one helpful place. The Device Comparison table lists how many of each peripherals are present in each part number. Capabilities of each peripheral is listed in the TRM in detail.

Apart from the TRM and Datasheet, there are also several user guides related to flash programming, functional safety, etc. + design files related to the hardware/development boards (LAUNCHXL-F29H85X, F29H85X-SOM-EVM, etc).

User can configure the code to be executed from FLASH and/or RAM. More information in the TRM/DS and the F29-SDK. There is a README included in the SDK on how where all the source code, examples, etc. are located.

Hello Aishwarya,

My first question is regarding the code density of C29x when compared to ARM Cortex-M. No need to look into my code for this.

Based on the information I read in TRM, I understand that C29x is having higher code density when compared to compared to Cortex-M since since the instructions (16-bit, 32 bit and 48 bits) are packed in single 64 bit. Please confirm whether my understanding is correct or not.

Muppidi,

Thanks for clarifying the request. Code size on C29x is comparable to Cortex-M7, not consistently smaller or larger. Both use mixed-width instruction encoding (C29x: 16/32/48-bit; Cortex-M: Thumb-2 16/32-bit), which is why they land close together. There are some additional factors with C29x that may worsen code size at certain optimization levels e.g. software pipelining of loops at O3. The links I shared earlier (ie. compiler guide) have some more information on the effect of optimization on code size.

We wish to understand the self-tests on F28P65x Launchpad. Could you please recommend us how to proceed? I guess we shall require software libraries to initiate self-tests and insert the failures. Please share the documentation and any supporting material for this?

Great to hear! Everything you need to get started with F28P65x should be available in C2000WARE (F28x SDK) and LAUNCHXL-F28P65x, similarly to how we discussed with for F29H85x. C2000WARE has several SW libraries and you can find more explanations in the README, C28x CPU Guide, C28x Compiler Guide, etc.
