40-bit performance counter on the C28x

Hi all,

Recently, I am studying <TMS320C28x CPU and Instruction Set Reference Guide>. In section 7.7.3 Benchmark Counter/Event Counter(s), there is a 40-bit performance counter used for benchmark. Does someone tell me how to use this counter, or how to configure it, and what the typical application of it?
