CCS cannot connect to piccolo control stick

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CCSTUDIO

I bought my piccolo control stick last week

I installed the CCS and controlstick software as it is described in the document

my windowsXP SP3 recognized the controlstick automatically and didnot ask for anything

now i start setup ccs,  I selected F28027 xds100 USB emulator and save & quit

After that I started CCS and selected connect under debug menu
in the headline of ccs : /F28027 XDS100 USB Emulator/TMS320C2800_0 - TMS320C28xx

the sandclock appeared and didnot disappear for minutes
It says it is connecting but nothing happens
also I cannot close CCS - it is not responding
also the device manager reports that the emulator cannot be started ( code 10 )
what shall I do ?
  • Hello Mehmet,

Unfortunately I cannot offer a remedy but I can only confirm (similar?) issue. I installed ControlStick on three computers. On one of these (windows XP SP3) I have the drivers installed (as shown on your screen) but CCS3.3 claims to be unable to connect.

Anyone: Is there a diagnostic utility?
I did uninstall, restarted windows, tried again; no luck.

    Did you resolve the issue?

    Thanks for any hint.

    Error connecting to the target:
    Error 0x80000240/-2092
    Fatal Error during: Initialization, OCS,
Device driver: Emulation Connection Loss Detected on Target CPU.
It is recommended to RESET EMULATOR.  This will disconnect each
target from the emulator.  The targets should then be power cycled
or hard reset followed by an emureset and reconnect to each target.

    I/O Port = 0

Board Name: F28027 XDS100 USB Emulator
    Cpu Name: TMS320C2800_0

    Abort:  Close Code Composer Studio.
Retry:  Try to connect to the target again.
Cancel:  Remain disconnected from the target
    Diagnostic: Run diagnostic utility.

  • Hi guys,

This is an odd error, I think it is related to the emulator not being programmed correctly, and issue we haven't seen on the controlSTICK before. Try following my post on "Dual RS-232 Fix" and reprogramming the emulator on the controlSTICK.This will hopefully fix the issue.

  • Hello Charlie,

Thanks for the quick response. However, the controlSTICK EEPROM programming doesn't seem to be the culprit in my case:
    a) I see the XDS100 properly recognized in Device Manager and so does Mehmet (judging from the (Finnish?) screen shot on his post).
    b) I tried another controlSTICK - same behavior.
    c) I tried the given controlSTICKs on my home W2k system ane all works as should.

So the driver (uninstalled and reinstalled several times) should be O.K. and happy I guess.
    CCS3.3 is set-up to use c:\CCStudio_v3.3\drivers\import\F28027_xds100usb.ccs
I can connect to another target (after running the "Setup Code Composer Studio v3.3") via SIGNUM JtagJet without any issue.
The XDS100 driver installation looks transparent though it would be nice to be able to test the functionality independently. The link between the CCS and FTDI driver is less transparent to me and I would expect the issue rather to be in that area.
    I am running CCS 3.3.79.5

    Thanks for any hints.

  • Martin,

It sounds like CCS is having issues. Did you use the version that came with the controlSTICK? Try un-installing it using the Windows uninstall feature. Then try installing the latest version of CCS available at http://community.ti.com/forums/t/7132.aspx This might make everything work. I apologize for getting the controlSTICK to run being such a hassle. Hopefully a fresh install of CCS will fix the problem. We just haven't seen this issue so it's hard to know where to start and it sounds like the controLSTICK hardware is working fine.

  • Charlie,

The reason I didn't want to uninstall / reinstall is that I am using paid C2000 version of CCS3.3 and obviously didn't want to downgrade to limited version.

However, at this point it looks like my issue is RESOLVED. Insted of installing drivers and CCS files from the CD which came with the controlSTICK I tried the "version 1.1" below:
    http://software-dl.ti.com/dsps/dsps_registered_sw/sdo_ccstudio/CCSv3/Drivers/XDS100_v1_1_RTM.exe

(I would swear I did it already few days ago, but  ...). This time it made the trick and all seems to work.

    Thanks,
    Martin

  • Martin,

That's great to know! Are you using the latest version of the full version of CCS? If so it is very strange that the XDS100 drivers had issues, but I'm glad you got it working!
