TMS version of TMS28027?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMS320F28027

Hi,

I've been designing in the TMS320F28027 version of the piccolo into the design. I've been getting conflicting information about when the piccolo is actually going to become "TMS" silicon. On the product page, it appears the version I want is in fact TMS silicon. Yet, digikey et al all only seem to have TMX silicon. Furthermore, talking to Tim Love via email seemed to suggest Q4 2009 was the release date of TMS silicon.

Could I get some clarification? As of now, higher ups are requesting a chip change due to this uncertainty.

Thanks,

Stewart.

  • Stewart,

The Piccolo 02x series will move to TMS Production status in October, but all part numbers are NOW open for order entry from your local distributor.  This is to help us plan production quantities and assure the right mix of part number / package / temp range as we begin shipping first TMS devices in mid October.  Please work with your local distributor for a more specific estimated ship date.

If you would like a TI representative to discuss with you or the higher ups we'll be happy to.

  • Hi Chris,

Thank you very much for this clarification. Can I assume therefore, given the timeframe, that TMX silicon *IS* TMS silicon -- there aren't any significant differences between the two?

    Thanks,

    Stewart

  • Stewart,

TMS silicon will launch as Rev 0, same as the TMX silicon you are using now.  No functional design differences.

We are planning to do a TMS revision to Rev A in 2010 that will address some of the errata in SPRZ292.  That silicon will likely be available sometime in Q2/Q310.
