How to use XDS510PP instead of XDS100 on ControlCard?

Hi all,

I have a ControlCard with Piccolo 28035. It is working with the XDS100 USB emulator, but now I would like to use it with my XDS510PP emulator.

This does not seem to work.

From the schematics, It seems as if I have to set J8 on the USB Docking-Station to reset the FT2232D Chip, but this does not help.

Code composer always reports
"Error connecting to the target:
Error 0x80000200/-2082
Fatal Error during: OCS,
Device driver: Emulation Connection Loss Detected on Target CPU.
It is recommended to RESET EMULATOR.  This will disconnect each
target from the emulator.  The targets should then be power cycled
or hard reset followed by an emureset and reconnect to each target.
I/O Port = 378"

So does anybody know how to use the XDS510PP emulator with the ControlCard?

  • Okay, now I managed to get it working:

    I have to supply the XDS510PP with +5V (directly on the XDS510PP).

    I never had to do this on other boards before - I think this is because the JTAG J2.5 pin is only supplied with +3.3V.

    This is different to other boards like the ezDSP2812 where we had +5V on the JTAG pin 5.

    Is there any reason for +3.3V instead of +5V? Are there other emulator pods that do only allow +3.3V? Or is this simply a design fault?

    Yes, there are other emulators out there that support 3.3V.  Some even down to 1.8V.  Spectrum Digital has other emulators which support 3.3V.
