Problem to use XDS510PP plus emulator with TMS320F28335

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CCSTUDIO

Hi all,

I am trying to connect the evaluation board ezdsp F28335 with the JTAG emulator XDS510PP for the first time but I don't succeed.

With sdconfig I can test the emulator and the target and it seems ok, the message is:

** Emulator Test **
 $$ EmuProductName=XDS510PP_PLUS
 $$ EmuPortAddr=0x378
 $$ EmuPortMode=SPP8
 $$ ProductId=10
 $$ ProductVersion=02

 ** Emulator Scan Test
-- Found JTAG IR length of 38
-- Found 1 JTAG device(s) in the scan chain

But when I select F28335 PP emulator in the Setup CCStudio 3.3, the result is an error that says:

Unable to find an appropiate registry key for "TMS320C28XX"
Target driver: C:\CCStudio_v3.3\drivers\sdgo28x.dvr

The drivers for the emulator for CCS 3.3 I downloaded them from the spectrum digital web site.

I tryed even uninstalling CCS and installing again but it keeps like that.

I chose this emulator following the advise in http://e2e.ti.com/forums/p/1435/4959.aspx#4959

Any idea of what can be wrong?

Thanks!

Ricardo.

  • Hi Ricardo,

I would recommend contacting Spectrum Digital about the problem. Unfortunately, the Paralell Port emulator that you purchased is quite old. If you are able to return it, I would recommend purchasing a Blackhawk emulator, the TMDSEMU2000U, available from www.ti.com/c2000tools for $299. This is a USB emulator that should have no problem connecting to the F28335.

  • GOOD MORNING sir,

i think this is not a correct answer for his question thats the problem many had encounterd, even "u", when u started working so kindly suggest us with a low cost solution and we think that u people are great, working on this area from past many years and  if the sol is buying a new one then what is the need of v the engineer's.

  • Hi Ricardo

I've been using XDS510PP+ for some years and I've had no problems. Though I've never used it on any OS newer than windows XP.

I usually choose "F28335 XDS510 Emulator" in CCS setup and not "F28335 Emulator"

It might be an issue with CCS. Did you install delfino chip suport package (or do you have CCS newer than 3.3.82.13)?

Contrary to the Charlie's statement I recommend that you keep XDSPP+ emulator as the parallel interface is much more stable in EMI polluted interfaces.

  • Hi Richardo,

I've faced the same problem right now. Did you eventually solve your problem? I have exactly the same setup as you have and I have exactly the same error

    Thank you
