28035 ADC characterization

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMS320F28035

Hi,

Do we have any additional data/spec.s we can provide regarding Piccolo B ADC performance?  We have a customer with the following questions.

The specified INL (integral non-linearity) of the on-chip ADC is +/-2 LSB (typical) (TMS320F28035 datasheet, page 116).
My questions are:
1) is that the maximum INL? (in the 2808 datasheet it is specified in the MAX column and in the piccolo it is in the TYP column).
2) is that parameter affected by temperature or any other condition? I calibrate gain and offset, thus I expect that the only absolute error is the INL. Is this correct?
3) if I use an external voltage reference with low temperature drift, would I have better stability than those 50ppm/C specified for the internal reference?
4) does TI recommend a temperature compensation using the internal temperature sensor?

Thanks for helping out.

  • Clark,

    A) The Piccolo-B TMX datasheet lists INL as a typical because we have not completed characterization. The 2808 part is TMS released and thus all ADC parameters have been characterized in order to spec an actual min and max value.

A2) INL does degrade with increasing temperature and improves with decreasing temperature, but until characterization is complete, we cannot comment on the amplitude in which it degrades.

A3) Yes. You should get very little temperature drift using external reference over internal.

A4) Not at this time because there are temperature sensor test enhancements needed first.Once these are in place, we can make these recommendations.
