Can't start Piccolo Experimenter's Kit CCS?

I'm trying to use the Limited version of CCS that came with the F28035 Experimenter's Kit,

and I can't even start the program.

If I start up CCS (via the icon) it runs cc_setup -- Vista has to ask my permission to do it --

and then reports "Error Reading Code Composer Setup information/Code Composer may

not have been correctly installed".

If I start CC Setup (via the icon), then "Save and Quit" I get "Code Composer Application

has stopped working". (The Vista Event Log says simply "crashed".)

I have (re-)installed CCS multiple times, using "Typical Install" and all the default settings. I

even installed ActivePerl, though I thought it wasn't required just to start the program.

I can see cc_app.ini and cc_setup.ini in cc\bin, and there's nothing obviously weird

in them. (I checked the shortcuts and they do "start in:" cc\bin.)

Searching the Forum, no one else seems to be encountering this. Am I missing

something?

Thanks for the pointer. Turning off UAC got rid of the "can't find setup information" failure (and

Vista's WarningWarning screen) but cc_app still crashes (that's all the Event Viewer says).

Running setup and CCS separately (cc_setup still runs in the latter case) doesn't seem to help.

But I can read the .hlp files now.

The command line stuff seems to work. "make" is as good an IDE as any, I suppose (:-)).

Hi Bruce,

VisSim is a graphical block diagram environment for efficient high level programming of the TI F28xx chip series. It only requires the CCS c2000 compilers be properly installed and the JTAG driver be setup. It does not use CCS itself. You can download a 2 month trial of VisSim/Embedded Controls Developer that will work fine with your F28027 controlSTICK here. It will greatly speed your F28027 evaluation.

Hi Bruce;

As well as turning UAC off you can also try

1) Rather than leaving CCSetup running while using CCS you can first exit CCSetup, without launching CCS, then launch CCS using the desktop icon.

2) Ensure your windows login is a member of the Administrators group.

3) Modify the CCS desktop shortcut icon to run as Administrator instead of as User. Right click on the icon, properties, advanced, …

4) If the above fails uninstall and reinstall as administrator: launch the setup program with administrator by right clicking on setup and select “run as administrator”.

Mike, I have the same problem with CCS crash in Vista and none of the above suggestions work.

Note that CCS starts fine if I specify target different from F28035.

I have tried this on two computers - Vista 32bit Pro and and Vista 32bit Ultimate with the same result.

It’s best that you try our latest build which does have a fix specifically for Vista. You will need to uninstall the current limited C2000 version before installing this.

Thanks Mike,

This build does not crash like the previous. I am still wonderning where am I suppsed to get a Service Code from so that I can register the CCS?

I am glad to hear build 3.3.83.14 fixes your issue with Vista.

In order to register the C2000 limited version you will need to wait for the next build which should be available within the next two weeks. You should not need to enter a Service Code for the limited version. Thanks for bringing this problem to our attention; it will be addressed.
