Crystal on C2000 Piccolo

Hello,

I am building a brushless motor controller using the C2000 and as I am completey new on using the C2000 I was wondering  what advantages and disadvantages would my system have have when using an external crystal with the internal one.

hope to hear some prompt replies soon, and thanks in advance.

  • Nahuel,

I would say that the internal crystal is good enough for almost all applications (especially brushless motor applications).  This is especially true because of the high amount of system MIPS that the C2000 MCUs have.

The main case that I would consider using the external clock is:
    - if you plan on adding something to your system that requires a highly precise clock (such as the specifications for CAN communication)

    Thank you,
    Brett

  • thanks Brett, if you have anything to add it would be welcome, but quite clear for the time being. Thanks
