Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPL9201, TMS320F2812

 Hi,

Could anyone share how to interface TPL9201 with TMS320F2812 for controlling various solenoids and LED's.  Any application notes would be of great help.

Thx

  • We do not have a direct application note regarding this but after looking at the datasheet it looks like it has serial communication that you can connect to the SPI peripheral of the TMS320F2812. We have some example code available for SPI communication available at the following link:

  • Hi,

Can you provide little bit more information regarding the interface of TPL9201. Regarding other pins like RESET, ZVS etc.

One more thing is that TPL9201 has internal pull down resitor of 100K on its SPI pin and hence voltage on this SPI pins gets reduced when we connect it with TPL9201.

Do we need to connet external pull up resitor on SPI line to overcome this situation?

  • Lalit,

The information you request about the TPL9201 will be in its datasheet.

  • I would love to know if anybody has successfully interfaced the TPL9201.

I have not been able to make it work.

I have a test program that drives ot from the PC parallel port, so I can play with the serial port waveforms.

With waveforms exactly as per data sheet, this is what happens:

You can turn output 1 on and off.

But you can only turn on output 2  if output 1 is on

And you can only turn on output 3 if outputs 1 and 2 are on

    etc etc

The other problem is that the internal snubbers do not protect the output drivers against inductive loads like relay coils. The outputs blow consistently when driving relay coils.

That would be OK - I could just add exteranl ctaching diodes; but I canlt seem to control the device via the serial port as it is supposed to work.

Can anybody throw any light on this? I have been scratching my head for 6 months, and a bald patch is starting to appear!
