ControlCard 28335

All:

During a schematic review at a customer, we looked at the 28335 ControlCard schematic, and it is quite different from the eZdsp schematic, especially in the area of ADC inputs. Can someone speak to the differences, and why they were implmented? (i.e. "Caps 3n3", DN1-3 diodes, and resistors)

Also, what is the reasoning for the 50 uH inductors on the Vdd lines - obviously, all this is here for noise immunity, but is it something we want to push at a customer review?

 Regards,

Todd Anderson / Minnesota

  • Todd,

the control cards are "battle hardened". As you can imagine, having a plug-in card increases the risk of damage and hence a conservative approach is adopted.

In the case of the customer board, if it is fairly self contained, then probably not the same need to add all the extra components, but if the custonmer design requires "plug in" capability, then it may be wise to adopt the control card approach.

    Cheers,

  • The application report "Hardware Design guidelines for TMS320F28xx...." SPRAAS1B would be a good reference as to what is required and why.
