TMDSPLCKIT-V3 Transmit seems OK, Receive not OK

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AFE031

Hello,

I have purchased a TMDSPLCKIT-V3 PLC evaluation kit.
The Power Line Comms Dock PCB is REV E R1.
I can communicate with the modems at both ends using the RS232 port and a null modem cable.
When I run the Prime PHY transmit test, there is activity on the transmit line on the AFE031 module and I can hear the noise on the ferrite transformer.
However the receiver at the other end doesn't receive data.

I can also transmit using the the Send Message option, but nothing is shown at the receiver end.

I used a scope to check the mains signals and found that the J10 jumper on one of the modules was loose (it arced when I pushed the scope probe onto it).
Suspecting a bad batch of jumpers, I replaced all the jumpers on both modems.  Yes, I double checked all the placements.
This did not fix the issue.

When I run the PRIME PHY Transmit test, the receiver modem shows an increased signal at the PGA1 output, but the data on the PGA2 output seems to be digital bits with bit period between 6-8us per bit. This does not seem to change whether the transmitter is running or not.

I swapped the AFE031 modules between the modems and this made no difference.

I have not attempted to re-flash the microcontrollers, since they seem to be working OK in transmit mode.
I noticed there is a LED on the AFE031 board. This is off all the time on both modems.

Can you please give me some more suggestions, since this "evaluation" has already taken a week and I have made very little progress.

Thanks,
Simon

  • Have you tried PLC Lite of G3? Maybe the problem lies with the PRIME binary?

  • Hello,

U say that u can communicate with the kit using RS232. Did you used another application made by you, other than those in the .sbin files ? If so how did you programmed the kit to send data to the serial port. I can't find the API for doing that. Or just used the RS232 port instead of USB.

    Regards

  • Hi!

What PC-application did you use for a RS232-connection? I have got TMDSPLCKIT-V3 with the PrimeDevelopmentPackageV6000. I have connected with modems through USB-JTAG and I used PLC Qualiti Monitor or PLC Zero Configuration. A testing with bouth applications have gave a positive results: a transmission & a reception was working successfully.
