C2000 Piccolo DRV8412 kit

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV8412, CONTROLSUITE

I received the DRV8412 kit. The board is rev. G. Followed instructions given in the quick start guide with two brushed motors connected. Started GUI (crosshairs) and clicked "Enable Motor". The motors did not spin. Readme in the GUI folder says Rev G board should use v6 GUI. I can only find v2 and v9 GUI's. The GUI displayed "Connect" and "Updates ON". Fault light was green. DC Bus light was off with value 28.8 V showed. The supply voltage was checked with a DVM. It was 23.4 V. Any idea?

Thank you!

  • Panson,

    I will try to get a more knowledgeable person on this kit to respond.  However, I believe that the reason the motor is not spinning is because the C2000 is reading the DC bus higher than it should.  Out of curiosity, what is the voltage seen at the node VDCBUS (from the schematic) on the board?  v9 GUI should work fine with Rev G of the board.

    In the mean time, have you tried the 2xDC_Motor project within controlSUITE?  I believe that you should have no trouble spinning your motor with this project.

    Thank you,

  • Hi Brett

    Thank you for your reply. I measured the PVDD point which was 23.x V, but VDCBUS of ADC-A4 input. I changed the max and min voltage setting in the GUI. But not changed accordingly.

    Both 2xDC and Stepper worked without issue.

    Cheers,

    Panson

  • this file

    C:\ti\controlSUITE\development_kits\DRV8412-C2-KIT_v131\~GUI\readme.txt

    is out of date. It was created when we moved to Rev G HW. At that time we archived

    GUIv2 = RevF

    GUIv6 = RevG

    Since then we moved to GUIv9 (last and final).

    So if you have RevG HW you must load the controlCARD with

    DRV8412GUIv9.out

    and after a power cycle run

    DRV8412GUIv9.exe
