EPI usage (General Purpose Mode) of Concerto F28M35H52C

Hello,

I read Technical Reference Manual of Concerto F28M35x, few times. But still the usage of EPI is not very clear.

Specifically, in the General-Purpose mode is it possible to have a configuration which consists of 16 data bits without address bits. I want to use the remaining EPI signals for other alternative functionalists. As an example in the attached figure please find the part of table which shows different configurations introduced in the Technical Reference Manual. I will appreciate if you clear me about that.

Masoud,

Any unused address bits can be used as GPIOs by clearing the AFSEL bit for the corresponding GPIO's. If you only need 16 data bits, you could use the second column configuration of the table in your post and reconfigure the address lines to other uses in your application.

Hi Lenio,

Thanks a lot for your comprehensive answer. I wonder, in case I just use the second column configuration, is there any way to have BYTE access. I mean, I want to read from the lower Byte (EPI0-EPI7), sometimes, and in the other times I want to write through upper Byte (EPI8-EPI15).

Masoud,

Yes, you can do that. Your solution will shape up according to the mode options you select, either General Purpose, Host Bus, or SDRAM.

Thanks for your reply. Does it means that even in Host Bus mode, I can eliminate the usage of address EPI pins, and assign to those pins alternative function?
