Cannot launch a Debug session when connected to target Device

I've encountered a problem when trying to flash my software on my device. My target device is a custom board containing a TMS320F28335 and my emulator is a TI XDS100v2 14 pin JTAG Emulator. The problem is that Code Composer Studio (v5.1) hangs at 99% when attempting to launch a debug session and stays there until I force close the IDE or turn off my target board. The target was able to pass the JTAG IR Integrity scan-test and the JTAG DR Integrity scan-test in Code Composer Studio before I encountered this problem.

Plus I was able to launch a debug session and flash the same code using the TMS320F28335 evaluation kit. I'm at a lost, can you guys help me out?

The obvious thing I would try is to first shut down CCS, restart the computer and retry (potentially with a new workspace).

Hardware-wise: If the emulator passes scan-test, most likely you've gotten the connections right. I would recommend checking your voltage rails to confirm they are relatively stable and make sure that you've placed a pull-down on TRSTn and pull-ups on EMU0 & EMU1. XRSn and clocking would be the only other major places to check.

However, I lean toward this being something with CCS or at least I believe they can help to further isolate the problem. Because of this, I would recommend reposting in the CCS forum.

Brett,

Thanks to your input, I found the source of the problem. My lab partner forgot to add a pull down resistor to the TRSTn line of the JTAG. The XRSn line was grounded so the MCU is permanently in reset mode. There is no crystal oscillator to control the MCU's CPU clock. The test pins for flash were grounded instead of floating. It seems my problem of flashing can be solved when we fix these blue wires.
