InstaSPIN FOC with concerto?

Hi, I'm considering using a Concerto MCU for my motor control project because it already provides the ability to do almost everything I need from a peripheral standpoint (sd card interface, ethernet, etc), but it also looks like it should be able to run a 3-phase motor if an appropriate motor driver IC is used.  Is there a way I can use the InstaSPIN project with a Concerto MCU?

  • Sorry, InstaSPIN-FOC is not available for Concerto. InstaSPIN-FOC relies on a proprietary library which is provided only in on-chip ROM on select Piccolo devices. 

    Many of the controlSUITE based "open" motor control solutions can be ported to run on the control sub-system of Concerto. And Visual Solutions offers a nice diagram built sensorless FOC solution with Ethernet based communications through their VisSim tool.

  • Is it possible to say which libraries are missing on the Concerto?
    We're currently evaluating the possibility to run two motors controlled by a Concerto using FOC. If we knew which parts are missing it would help us to estimate the effort to implement this on a Concerto.

    The sensorless FOC encoder is the piece that is missing on Concerto.  Certain Piccolo devices have this software in ROM, but Concerto does not.

  • Did you ever get a Concerto sensorless project up and running?  I have been trying to do a similar thing with either one or two motors yet use Hall Effect sensors to regulate speed and torque.  Ti did send me a zipped project that they used in a demo a year or two back that employes the Concerto instead of the C2000.

  • I did get a Concerto controlcard/DRV8312EVM setup to run my motor, but I employed a Visual Solutions VisSim graphical UML project, which you can try for free (at least you could when I tried it out).

    Due to time constraints (it was a student project) we switched to the Piccolo to make sure we would be able to finish the project in time, although it was not the optimal solution.  I'm not working in this Lab anymore at the time, but if it would be possible for you to send me these files that would be great.
    I'm still in contact with them and it could be of help for new projects.
