replacing TMS320F2812

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMS320F2812

Recently i changed ( that is replaced) the TMS320F2812 DSP.  But it is not booting. I want to know that i need to do re-program again thru JTAG 14 pin header unit or not?

If  we are going to changing the same DSP each and every time need to program or need not?  I am using ALTERA cyclone 3 in another PCB but need not to do program while replacing that fpga chip.

Suggestions are most welcome.

Ravi

  • If you replace the chip with a fresh (blank) one, you need to re-program it with the program whatever the old one having.

Cyclone 3, the program may be staying outside, in an external eeprom and loads on power-up. But DSP case is different, the program stores in internal flash.

Just curious, why you have to change DSP/ FPGA in the board often?

    Cheers

  • Thanks for your reply friend... We have some OMR scanners which bought it from China few years back. Due to some external power problem and wrong operation that processor got damaged in some of PCBs.  Now that company closed. They given the main program but unfortunately one our old staff formatted the whole computer system.  We have nearly 15 main PCB need to replace the same processor.

If i need to do program again means then i have to buy this:

    DSP TMS320F2812 Programmer Kit:
programmer; XDS510 emulator; 5V 1A adaptor; vacuum chuck; CCS3.3 + driver software; TMS32OF2812 one piece)

or i need to clone it from working DSP.

Suggestions most welcome and it will be help to us.

    Thanks

  • OK.

Do you have the program file soft copy?

Cloning possibility almost out with Code Security Module which prevents reading. If by chance the chip is not secured with CSM, 1% possibility, it can read back.

There are many cheaper solutions available than XDS510, check the product page. http://www.ti.com/product/tms320f2812#devtool

Also replacement of chip can be done at a vendor instead of buying vacuum chuck etc.

  • Thanks Mr. Joy.  Unfortunately, we don't have soft copy with us. So we need to do program again with development kits. The total kit price is 388 USD which available in China.

  • I think there is a slight misunderstanding here. If the program is secured, I assume that would be the case, there is no tool can read or duplicate the program.

Development or programming tools; doesn't make any difference in reading the existing program from the chip. So best bet is getting the soft copy from email/ backup/ recover whatever possible way.
