HRCAP timestamping

I've got an instrument that uses eCAP modules to timestamp digital events with a resolution of 6.6 nsec.  I am thinking of moving to HRCAP to increase the resolution, but the documentation suggests that the HRCAP mode can measure pulse width, but cannot keep track of total elapsed from a start time.  I'm thinking that it might be possible to use PeriodWidth to measure elapsed time between all incoming edges and accumulate the result to get the total time, but since this is an unusual application of HRCAP, I'm worried about accumulated errors.  Has anyone used HRCAP in a timestamping application?

Thanks,
