I have the TMDSPREX28335: C2000 Peripheral Explorer Kit and it did not come with the sci cable to connect to J12. I am going to attempt to make this cable myself, but I cannot find a pin out on how to connect it to the RS232 of the computer. Does anyone know or have information on that.

Take a look at the following in controlSUITE:

I think it will answer your questions. Note that the DB9 picture on slide 3 is from the 'male'-end's perspective.
