TMS320LC2406A COMPARED TO TMS320F28069. TMS320F28069 ADC ANALOG BANDWIDTH

We have a customer considering the C2000 for a new GPS recevier design.  The previous desing was based on a TMS320LC2406a.  Here are some questions they have:

1.       Are the assembly instructions compatible with the TMS320LC2406a?

2.       What is the analog BW of the F28069 ADC (from analog input pad through the ADC)?  Can I use this ADC to sample a 50KHz signal centered at 10MHz? My sample rate will be ~100KHz but I need the analog input to be undistorted.

3.       Can I get a reduced cost rom version like the C2406a?

Thanks for your help.

John Wiemeyer

No, the 28069 is based on the C28x CPU.

You may have read that the 240x assembly instructions can be re-assembled for 28x, however doing this requires memory on the device in both the low memory map and the high memory map.  The 2806x lacks this memory thus the re-assemble of 240x cannot be used.  Devices with this memory will show it in the memory map as "240x compatible memory".

Having said that, so much is different on the device I have rarely seen someone go this route and instead just program the 28x device in C.

The ADC on 28069 is 3.46 MSPS.  Please refer to the data manual for more timing information. www.ti.com/lit/SPRS698

No, a ROM version is not available for the 28069.

  • Hi John,

For (2), we have only done characterization of this ADC for baseband sampling. Based on that, I can tell you the full-power and small-signal bandwidth are both greater than 2.3MHz, but I am not sure what you will get at 10MHz.  Are they using the 2406A for sampling in higher nyquist zones?
