Other Parts Discussed in Thread: F28M35H52C

On the Concerto F28M35H52C the datasheet lists pin 91 as NC.  On the control card for this device this pin is tied to 1.2V and is labeled B_VDD12C.8.  (schematic date Feb 1, 2012)  Which is correct?

The control card also connects all the 3.3V supply pins through a ferrite bead for each lead.  Is this really necessary?  The datasheet recommends a 0.1 uF cap for each pin, while the board uses 2.2 uF.  Is bigger better?

  • Hi Amy,

    1.2V is correct.

About the ferrite beads, those the the TI designed *** recommended parameter and the same is for the capacitor values.

  • Hi Amy,

0.1uF should be sufficient, but 2.2uF is fine too.  However, you definitely don't want to increase capacitance if this means increased capacitor package size (smaller is better).  General rule of thumb is use the smallest package sized capacitors that make sense for your design with the largest capacitance value reasonably available in that package (but do use at least 0.1uF).  Higher capacitance value could also slightly increase power-up time.

Ferrite beads are certainly not necessary, but could be a good idea for some designs.
