how to interface pendrive to tms320f28069

Hi Trupti!

If I understand your F28069 is host and the pendrive is connected to it directly. You will not see anything in hiperterminale on your PC at this case. Or have you connected your F28069 to PC directly via USB?

  i have attch pendrive too. also created one text file in it...After ls command it should show all the content of it, ri8??? Or i have to use other fat commands..This sample program will work fine na if i want to use it to just read the dtata from pendrive???

why this condition is getting satisfy if(iStatus != 0)... is there any problem with my hardware connection of pendrive to tms320f28069??? or some other precautions i have to take??

 so as per you there is problem with my hardware setup??? what i have to do then? 

Now using serial communication i.e. on hyperterminal you will be able to manipulate data on the pendrive. Format the pendrive using FAT system -> Load a small .txt file in it -> Try reading the pendrive using hyperterminal commands.

Its very important that you format your pendrive to FAT/FAT16 system.

Ok, so we're all clear from PD & sample code point of view. Both of them seem to be working fine. Lets check with the interfacing of the kit and the PD again.

my hardware pin connections are like...

VBUS  =    through 100k resitor to 5v.

D+      =  GPIO 26

D-      =  GPIO 27

GND  = GND...

Does the PD switch on after connecting it to the terminal which is connected to the board? (Glow its LED)

    yes it has led indication...

Now its simple right! The pd is not getting the power.... Some issue wit the connection you've done. use a multimeter or DSO to check the VDD and GND signal of the usb connector. You might've reversed the connections (I guess).

Are you sure about your PD is valid? Vbus voltage can't drop in this manner when connection with PD.

Actually Igor is very correct, 100K is not at all necessary. The doc suggested the value so... I didn't wanna go against it. BTW 1k is suffient!

      Igor, i have tested my pd, and it's working fine.. alos i have formatted it with fat command...and created t.txt sample file int it...

Trupti, one last experiment... Can you give 3.3v externally through 1k to the pd instead from GPIO? This will surely switch on the pd. (This is because the controller is not able to switch on the pd)

Igor I checked here with 1k resistor -> 3.3V; its powering my usb pd perfectly. First of all the controller is not able to drive her pendrive and over that if we use a high resistance as big as 100k then....it would never be able to.

Here's more info on this topic... (all confirmed)

The sourcing current from GPIO can be around 8mA.

Generally, a pendrive needs current around 100-150mA.

Meeting this requirement is impossible. As pendrive is not able to fetch a massive 150mA from controller, its dropping the voltage across Vbus.

So an external 3.3V supply is very much needed.

From where are you providing 3.3V and what is the value of resistor?

 external regulated 3.3v dc.... and value of resistor is 1k..

I hope the current limit is set to 500mA.

Yes, basically the computer usb ports are set at 500mA limit. Or gradually increase the current limit until you can see your pd switch on!

Trupti, the issue will be with D+ & D- signals. If you give 5V as input; D+ & D- signals will have 5V for logic high; but the controller has a 3.3v logic high which will not match and might damage the controller.

NOTE: If the pendrive has an inbuilt logic converter that converts logic 5v to 3.3v for communication purpose then one can surely give 5V as input. (I guess, this might be the case)
