Hello,

I'd like to have more info about the possibility of putting IN SERIES the output terminals of the dc/dc converters available in the kit. For example, I wish to buy 2 kits, to connect at their inputs two different PV panels and connect the output terminals of the two dc/dc converters available (one in the first kit and one in the second kit) in series, so that they share the current. The series connected terminals must be connected at a battery or to a constant voltage source. Thus, I wish to test a configuration used in Distributed MPPT applications.

The problem might be in the dc/dc converters controllers grounding, because the negative terminal of ONE dc/dc converter can be grounded, but not of both.

Please let me know if you need further details in order to give me a complete answer.

But until you ground the other negative terminal; that dc/dc converter will malfunction!

Dear Gautam, I apologize, but your reply is not clear to me.

I mean that I wish to realize this connection

where the inverter input can even be substituted by a dc load or a battery or an electronic load working at a fixed voltage.

Do you think this can be realized by the TI module?

Yes, I was exactly talking about the above diagram. You've to make grounds common for your logic to work(like you've done above). Though I've never tested such kind of logic myself. It would be better if we wait for TI experts to comment on this. Theoretically, this logic should work!

Giovanni,

The setup you have relies more on the bias of the power stages, i.e. how the converter is powered up. As solar explorer is an EVM it uses a DC power supply which is isolated and will give a floating DC voltage (Note there is no earth connection on the supply shipped with the kit). So theoretically you can test this setup with the solar explorer kit. In an end application this will be no issue as the bias will be from the panel.

However you must not exceed the power ratings of the boost stage which are specified in the HW guide. Note the power rating i.e. voltage and current are wrt local ground.

What you are trying to do is commonly called solar micro converter where individual DC DC are tied together to generate the DC bus this solves issues with partial shading condition.

It is not clear to me why you speak about powering up and the bias given by the panel. Don't you think the problem might be in the driving of the dc/dc converter switches? If anything is grounded, I think that the solution can work.
Any additional suggestion?

If you look at the driver for the boost stage uses UCC27324 driver which is powered from 12V on the the board, if the bias providing this voltage is floating the driver should work, this is what i wanted to point
