Bridgeless PFC demo kit

I recently received the demo kit for the bridgeless PCF power supply,

We have been unable to connect to the device through either XDS100 emulator on board or on the control card. I replaced the control card with another I had been using which I checked  prior to this test, and it wont communicate either.

Symptoms are :  USB recognizes the eval board emulator and loads the driver as a XDS100 v1 + comm the control card is blank,  FTDI Fprog verifies this so I programmed it as well and it also now loads as a XDS100V! + comm.

Connection test in the configuration (ccxml ) editor fails on every test after recogizing the port and serial number connectivity.

The eval board does not have any jumpers installed, and as stated in other forums there is no supporting documentation, other than second guessing the schematics.

The quick start states the device should be connected as a xds100V2 even though the FTDI identifies as XDS100V1.   I moved the control card to a previosly working BLDC eval kit and it works fine no issue.

It appears that although the on board external 12VDC , causes the control card to power up and blink the red LED the emulator is getting 0xFFFFFFF on all scan tests and there is no communication with emulator and the 28035 device.  The control card appears to work fine independent of the BLPFC board, regardless of configuration.  I am using this demo for a consulting contract with a large 100K + build on the line, I need to run some tests before moving forward with my proposal...

Any thoughts on why this wont talk?

  • Thanks, but I exhausted it as an emulator problem,  I have several C2000 boards, most my own design,  If I take the control card I can communicate with it and run simple demos code LED blink etc if I power it separately from the eval board,  using either the onboard isolated XDS100 or disabling it (SW3) and using the dimm pins with one of my many experimenter boards or  XDS boards, v1, v2 nd v3 all work.

Plugged into the eval board it lights up , and the led blinks( last program I left in flash/)  but the emulator cant talk to the device, either with the on board islolted emu as indicated by the quick start or after switching sw3 the xds100 on the eval board..  The problem seems to be in th eval board, it may well be holding the device in reset, I havent been able to tell, there are several jumpers on the board none are installed and I havent found the smoking jumper yet...

Bottom ine is that thje PFC eval board is worthless if I cant bott it and demo the software...

  • Ok,  its up and running now,  there was a bad (missing really) solder on the DIMM connector, on the TMS and TDIO lines to the control card..

The board had no jumpers,  the control card FTDI device was blank, and we re soldered the DIMM connector after programming the FTDI on the 28035 card to  have the standard XDS100v1 eeprom code we copied from a control stick... This wqs new in the wrapper from the distributor, looks like a QA issue...
