Unable to connect to 28335 dsp

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UNIFLASH

Hi,

I am working with 28335. I interface it with the Nexys2 Spartan 3E DSP.  It was working fine till today. But, today evening when I changed some connections, it suddenly started giving me  error message while programming dsp.  The exact error message is as follows.

"C28xx: Error connecting to the target: (Error -151 @ 0x0) One of the FTDI driver functions used during the connect returned bad status or an error. The cause may one or more of: invalid emulator serial number, blank emulator EEPROM, missing FTDI drivers, faulty USB cable. Use the xds100serial command-line utility in the 'common/uscif' folder to verify the emulator can be located. (Emulation package 5.1.232.0)"

When I removed all the external connections, it again started working.

I want to know the reason of the problem and solve it. Pl. help me. I feel the USB cable is not faulty. So, there may be some mistake in connections.  But I don't understand exactly what is the mistake. (I am using GPIO0-34 and GPIO 60 only outof all available for external connections ) Iwant to know the reason of the problem so that it don't get repeated.

More over for testing the USB cable as mentioned in the message I tried to find out the utility 'common/uscif'  which I could not find. So, what is the exact location of the command line utility?

Pl. reply me.

  • Hi Vipul,

What are the connection changes you did? Also, once try using CCS uniflash. Acc. to the above error, emulator is not able to communicate with the controller. So the changes you're doing is inturn effecting this communication.

  • Dear Sir,

    Thanks for your reply.

Actually I am using delfino experimenter's kit. I am using GPIO 0-34 and GPIO 60.
I am interfacing the same with FPGA Digilent nexys-2 Spartan 3E. Also, I am using the Chipscope pro software from Xilinx and Logic analyzer Agilent MSO6052A for verification.

My  connection details are as follows.

    1. GPIO-24-31 are used as bidirectional data bus

    2. GPIO 0-9, GPIO-16-23, GPIO32-34 as output port

    3. GPIO 10-15 as input port.

    4. All signals are connected to FPGA.

Now, sequence of operations were as follows.

    1. Initially, I had connected the DSP-FPGA. The both were working fine. The FPGA was generating signals correctly.

I have verified FPGA output through  chipscope pro software. I have also tested some signals with logic analyzer.

    2. With reference to my problem, in data bus interface, I am getting the data output on FPGA ports connected to DSP GPIO 24-31 (my data bus) according to chip scope pro software. But, in dsp I am not getting the data. Considering this, to verify actual status of data bus, I connected the logic analyzer channels in parallel with the GPIO23-31 (my data bus) ( This was done after making power to DSP and FPGA OFF.)

After re powering, when I tried to connect the DSP, it could not get programmed. So, I removed all the connections. And, then I could program it.

I want to know the reason behind the same so that in future I can avoid the situation.

  • Hi Vipul,

I'm assuming that you're aware of the JTAG connections in detail. Anything altering these lines or Vcc or Gnd signals would give you an erroneous result.
