Which USB-RS232 cable is compatible to TMS320F28335 eZdsp Stater Kit?

Hello,

I am first contact with TMS320F28335 eZdsp Stater Kit, and I would like to transmit data between my laptop (Win 7 - 64bit) to TMS320F28335 via RS232 function. My choice is using a USB - RS232 to connect with the board.

However, the board is supplied by 3.3V source so I do not know which cable can be used for my board???

Is this cable possible to be used directly:

Hi,

You'll have to check whether the board has RS-232 logic level or 3.3V Rx-Tx logic level. If the later then, you'll need a level shifter else you can connect directly.

Hello,

From http://www.ti.com/tool/tmdsez28335, I saw that this board is powered by 5V (not 3.3V), and the board supports "RS-232 interface with on-board transceiver and 9-pin DSUB connector".

Please give confirmation about this.

If they are correct and your laptop has RS232 interface (DB9 connector), you can connect directly this board to your laptop using DB9-to-DB9 cable.

Or if your laptop has no DB9 connector, you can use USB-toDB9 cable (i think it should be like these ones http://www.ebay.com/bhp/usb-to-db9-serial-cable).

This is a board made by Spectrum Digital Inc and you can find a lot of good information on this board at the EZ28335 page of their website (such as schematics, etc). I believe this will help you answer many of your questions:

Thanks for the information.

Previously, I was just trying answering Huynh Anh Duy Nguyen questions above.

So based on the schematic, this board is using 3.3V (not 5V).

However, it has MAX3238CPW so Huynh Anh Duy Nguyen can connect this board to the PC/laptop directly (if the PC/laptop has serial port).

What I am confuse is the voltage level of USB-RS232 cable which is connected with my labtop is ok with the Ezdsp kit or not.

So can MAY3238CPW possiple connect direcly to the USB-RS232 cable? I would like to be sure before happening any problem for the DSP.

Yup, you can directly connect MAX3238CPW to PC/Laptop. Check the datasheet where this is clearly mentioned!
