Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MOTORWARE
I have a cost sensitive application where I need position control for an actuator attached to a BLDC motor. Due to cost concerns of adding an encoder to the motor, do you have a solution that provides "position" feed back using the halls on the BLDC motor? Since my actuator is driven by the motor through a high reduction gearbox, I do not need a high precision position indicator. I also am implementing a homing function such that I can drive the motor to the actuator limits, and count motor revolutions between them to determine the travel. Dividing the travel count by 2 gives me the count from the max travel in either direction to the number of revolutions to the center position.
Robert,
Sorry, we haven't done any Hall feedback for position control. But in your application with a gear box perhaps sensorless speed control would suffice?
Does the InstaSPIN support an analog input for position information from an absolute position sensor to feed into the position loop?
The position control projects just need an electrical angle / theta, wherever you may get that from. It can be absolute encoder, resolver, high speed digital encoder, regular encoder with a mechanical to electrical offset/conversion, or even special software techniques which may produce an electrical rotor angle estimation.
So why Hall sensors does not satisfy an "electrical rotor angle estimation"?
Or do you mean that haven't done "yet"?
Best regards

Tales,
Hall sensors when used to generate an electrical angle provide a large amount of uncertainty. These sensors typically don't provide enough information to do accurate position control.
If you have software that can use Hall sensors in order to produce an accurate electrical angle then you could use that software to provide the electrical angle to InstaSPIN-MOTION.
