HI.,

I am designing Intelligent Motor controller board for my project using concerto F28M36P63C2 MCU device.

my question is,

i need to add external flash for the booting concerto MCU.

what type of flash i can use(serial or parallel)

if serial can i use my configured UART or SSI other than default pins shown in boot configuration article in technical manual of F28M36X.any recommended chips for serial flashing?

if parallel what is the bus width(data and Address) i can use.any recommended chips?

my requirement is from flash MCU(both M3 and c28x) should boot and start running application without and other device support.

what is the maximum flash memory i can use?(i am planning for 4M/8M flash)

any design configuration methods are much appriciated.

i went through all documents and forum discussions i didn't got appreciable answer to my problem.

Hi,

For External flash SSI should be preferred than the others. F28M36X should support 4M and 8M flash.

Thanks gautam for the reply.,

i went through that document for external booting flash.,

but my problem is i cant use the default pins of SSI which document is specifying, and if i use say 8M serial NOR flash (from spanson) whether the commands and communication will be taken care by concerto by default., or i need to write any code in boot ROM to fetch data from the flash and start running application.

example.,

any processor will generate the hex code., which can be stored in flash.,

while booting-up the processor will communicate with the flash for specific kind of data inputs to fetch the application code.,

whether any flash can be used for this purpose or flash with custom boot code is required?
