Hi,

I am developing a three phase voltage source inverter using space vector PWM. For that I need to select a microcontroller. I am looking for a microcontroller with the frequency around 100MHz. It should be capable of

1) generating three center aligned PWM signals

2) the duty of the PWM signals should be variable from the code on the go

3) should be able to generate the compliment of the PWM signals

4) should be able to implement a specified dead band between the PWM and it's complimentary PWM

What part from TI will suit my application?

Hi Kalpa,

The best controller that suits your kind of application is TMS320F28335 with 150MHz (max). Also using this controller will ensure you for further expansion of the project quite easily.

28035 can very well suit your application, which is 60MHz with a CLA co-processor.

Best part is, there are many sample applications (3 phase SVM) readily available, so can save the development time to a great extent.

Thanks Joy for the reply. I am not sure 60MHz will be sufficient enough for the application. Finally the current waveform needs to have a THD below 2.5%. And there are no samples available as well. If there were I could have tested and observe.

OK, your target current THD easily achievable with 28035, also it will save >$20 in processor and power supply alone. But it depends on product, if volume is less, no need to worry about cost.

Both case you can have ideal current reference, getting THD below 2.5% not a challenge if you switch anything above 5KHz, if fsw 15-20KHz something can reduce/ eliminate the series choke. Motor acts like a filter, so practically higher frequency can give good (<1% THD) waveform.

This is going to be a prototype and therefore the volume is less for the moment. I get the point. My switching frequency is 10kHz so should be able to achieve the required THD limitations. Thanks
