New to TI MCU installation.

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMS320F28335, CONTROLSUITE

Hello i just ordered some chips:  TMS320F28023 TMS320F28026 , and TMS320F28069M and although I have worked with a TI chip recently (TMS320F28335) in my MicroP class I really have no clue how to design a board for it. In a past design class I used Atmel and PIC chips but thos used a programming devices and a simple programming circuit. Now, I can't seem to find any helpful hints on the datasheet of the chip and I resorted to this forum. Could someone help me find information to designing a programming circuit for these chips and if the "JTAG" circuit on the datasheet is necessary? I would greatly appreciate it, thank you!

  • Hi Alan,

First of all just be calm and forget about PIC and Atmel controllers & their designs. TI's C2000 series is totally at a different level and designing has to be done very thoroughly and carefully.

    1. First step is to check out the TI designs like for eg. for F28069M TI has designed a controlCard which goes with the motor kit. Check out its design and extract all the important details from the schematic and board files.

    2. Secondly, about programming the mcu: there are various methods to do it for which you can refer this  doc: 2500.Flash Programming Solutions.pdf

    3. Let me know if you have any other difficulties. Please download controlSuite for schematics and board files (also available in pdf versions).

Good luck, Merry Christmas & Regards,

    Gautam

  • I guess a better question for me would be, is there a programmer i can buy for my chip, so that i can connect it to the JTAG pins and program it that way. i wanna start working on my project ASAP and designing this would take more time than I can afford to waste right now.

Yes, you can go for XDS100. Here's the link for the same:

You can also check out XDS200 and XDS560.
