Adding USB emulation in custom hardware

We are designing a C2000 based hardware and am thinking of adding USB emulation copying from docking station schematic - is there any lagal or IP related topic we should be aware of? Any other technical point (harwdare and/or software related) we need to consider? Any suggestions will be very much appreciated. By the way, the board will have regular JTAG connection as well. Thank you in advance for all the help.

Thanks for posting the link but docking station schematic and xds100 link (EPK , I was looking at v1) show two different circuit implementations. The docking station is simpler. So, which implementation TI recommends? What are the trade offs?

Docking station is based on XDS100v1, WIKI is now showing XDS100v2. XDS100v2 is 2x faster for c2000, but it is slightly more expensive due to the faster FTDI. The CPLD is more integrated and generic for TI devices (c5000, c2000, etc.), while docking station is c2000 specific (one voltage, etc.).

Okay, thanks for the clarifications .... we need emulation for only C2000 and speed is not a major requirement , lower cost is ... so considering your comments docking station implementation will work for us better . Here is a sofwtare related question - do we need any software other than CCS drivers for XDS100? Is there a example file to program the EEPROM?

xds100v1 should work fine as long as speed is not a major requirement. We use it and it has worked very well for on-board emulation on many of our EVM boards. xds100 drivers (installed with CCS3.3 SR12 and greater) and MProg (to program the EEPROM) should be all that you need. The post I've linked below should give a good step-by-step procedure on how to program the EEPROM for the FTDI device.
