Switch the direction of BLDC motors

Hello,

How do I change the direction my BLDC motor is spinning (go from 0.3krpm to -0.5krpm)? Can I do this in real-time from the debug window? I just tried giving a negative value into "gMotorVars.SpeedRef_krpm" and the fuse blew on my power supply.

I am on lab 5e of the Instaspin Motion labs and using CCS 5.5.0, the F2806x controlCard, and the DRV 8301 board

Thanks for any help you can give,

Aaron

  • Aaron,

Yes, you can, just use negative values.

You do need to take note of your inverter and power supply limitations.

    1. If you are running at high speed with a large Bemf motor you are generating a sizable voltage on the bus.  Your power supply may need to be able to sink power.

    2. Sudden deceleration can cause a major over voltage event or the opposite, pull down the voltage supply of the inverter or the power supply due to instantaneous current demand

What sort of motor do you have?

Rs, Ls, Flux, and Maximum Speed (Hz)
