Damaged component PR798 - HVPSFB

Hello,

I damaged PR798.

I think I destroyed a resistor or capacitor which is on bottom. But I cannot remove it from HVPSFB kit.

Does anybody have advice?

  • Hi Kazim,

Removing these modules is a bit tricky but it is doable.  I am sympathetic as I have done this job several times.

You'll need to desolder the individual pins with a soldering iron that has a pretty large tip and then use solder wick to soak up the solder.  The key is to make sure that the solder liquifies.

Occasionally, you may desolder a pin, realize that it's not removed adequately, need to resolder it, and then re-desolder it.  Go one at a time through the pins and you'll eventually get it off.

Note that if you destroyed a capacitor (and especially a resistor) you likely damaged more than just the one component.  Once you get the PR798 off I would recommend checking for shorts between powers and grounds, etc.

    Thank you,
    Brett
