F28335 SCI to PC

Hello,

I am using TMS320F28335 and would like to connect it directly to a PC. Is an IC like a max232 or similar required? or should I be able to connect this directly?

I have not been successful connecting directly, scoping the output, my baud calculations and other config seem fine (9600, 8N1), but I am receiving garbage data monitoring through RealTerm. This is with my own sample programs, as well as using the ControlSuite echoback example. Suggestions?

Hi Bruce,

Do you've the F28335 Experimenter's kit? If yes, then the Docking station has a J3 - SCI connector that you can connect to PC serial port. You can use echoback example for demo purpose. Let me know how this goes.

Thanks for the reply Gautam. No, I'm not using the experimenters kit. It is a custom board. I am using scib, and have tried implementing it in my own sys/bios project, and when that didn't work I modified the controlSuite echoback example to use scib. That also didn't work.

If its not an experimenter's kit, then you'll be requiring a level shifter circuitry. MAX232 would do the trick.

Hi again Gautam,

the data I am transmitting from the F28335 also seems to be inverted. is there a way to invert the communication?

Bruce, to the best of my knowledge there isn't a way to invert these signals internally. I think your best bet is to use an external inverting buffer to invert the signal.
