28069 SPI to external FLASH - SPISTEA or GPIO as Chip Select

Hello,

I am creating a custom board with a 28069 (master) that is attached via SPI to a FLASH (slave).

I have been going through POSTs trying to understand if I need a GPIO to act as a chip select to the FLASH device

or if I can use the SPISTEA line. I get the impression from reading POSTs that I would need a GPIO?

Any insight would be appreciated.

Brent,

You can most definitely use the SPISTEA line as the Chip select. The reason many people use a GPIO is if they have multiple slaves connected to the same SPI. If you are only connecting SPIA to the external FLASH slave, you can let the SPI handle the chip select.
