Is there a stand alone Virtual Com Port driver (for Windows) available for XDS100v2 channel B?

We are using ControlCard F28M35 in our design. We have connection to the side miniUSB port which is JTAG+UART-over-USB. This Channel B works just fine as Virtual Com Port with CCS installed, but does not if CCS is absent, Windows cannot find a proper driver for XDS100v2 channels

We are very interested to use ONLY channel B of FTDI2232H chip as Virtual Com Port on PCs without CCS installed, it seems to overkill to install CCS just for the purpose of using this port.

A few years ago the Q&A stated that stand-alone (without CCS) operation of FTDI2232H chip is not supported: http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/XDS100#Q:_Can_I_use_the_XDS100_without_CCS.3F_Is_there_an_API_to_access_it.27s_functions.3F

Is situation changed? Can we have a VCP driver for channel B only, without JTAG driver for channel A?

Hi Igor,

Did you try by just porting the driver folder (XDS100 or all emulators) to another Pc?

Hi, Gautam,

Yes, it is working: I copied "xds100_drivers" to another location, and uninstalled CCS. After that, Windows could not find drivers for it:

The Device Manager shows this:

Right-click on the SECOND line, select: “select drivers from a specific location”

and point to copied folder.

Windows will tell “finished installing driver software for this device: “TI XDS100 Channel B”

Then a new serial port should appear (in this example it is COM4):

Similarly Channel A (which is JTAG emulator) can be installed as well, but there is no much use of it without CCS

That's great! You can install CCS. (Why did you uninstall it ?)

Gautam,

Of cause I installed CCS back on MY computer.

I tested possibility to use this port WITHOUT INSTALLING WHOLE CCS on our customer's computers.
