xds100v3 no uart port

hi guys,

i use the linux version of ccs6.0.1.

when i connect the xds100v3 i can't see an ttyUSB0 port under /dev.

with an older version xds100v2 i can see an ttyUSB0 port.

my linux version is linux mint 17.

can anybody help my.

Alex,

I took a look at the XDS100v3 design and it looks like it DOES NOT support a UART connection which is why you aren't seeing ttyUSB0. The second channel on the FTDI device is used to program the FPGA on the emulator.

Hi,

Thank you for your response.

But when i connect the XDS100V3 programmer to an Windows Operating System

I can see in the Device Manager an "COM Port".

I dug a little deeper and it looks like there may be some switches you need to set on the emulator itself. Check out this pdf:

Actually, I found a solution for the exact problem I've had with the XDS100v3 (but mine is from Olimex).
I didn't need to change anything on the board itself. All that was needed was to follow the instructions here:
processors.wiki.ti.com/.../XDS100

(EDIT: In the link look at the answer to the question "Q: How can I use the XDS100v2's second port as a serial port (UART)?")

Note that in the link they talk about XDS100V2 but in the end V3 is very similar to V2 except that V3 supports also IEEE 1149.7.
Just follow those instructions and you'll get the COM port up and running.

I observed the same error on the SmartRF06 board which uses the XDS100v3 and worked around the problem by adding another udev rule.

In the /etc/udev/rules.d/ folder, create new file, let's say 72-ti-xds100-override.rules with the following content:

ACTION=="add", ATTRS{idVendor}=="0403", ATTRS{idProduct}=="a6d1", RUN+="/sbin/modprobe ftdi_sio", RUN+="/bin/sh -c 'echo 0403 a6d1 > /sys/bus/usb-serial/drivers/ftdi_sio/new_id'"

Restart udev
```
sudo udevadm control --reload
```

You'll get two devices: ttyUSB0 and ttyUSB1. The UART port is ttyUSB1.

On my olimes XDS100v3, with microsoft widows I can find the serail port, but first we must reprogram the FTDI chip (embeded in XDS100v3) with FT-PROG from FTDI web site.

with some versions of Windows we can also do it directly from device manager.

This just to program it to automatic load a virtual com port for chanel B.

I don't know exactly how is done under Linux.
