eCAN CANRIOC setting relevance 2833x

The Reference Guide for 2833x eCAN says that the RXFUNC bit must be set in the CANRIOC Control Register. Inadvertently in our previous code it wasn't but our CAN interface worked fine without it as it does now that the bit is set. So, does that Control Register do anything?

The design of this module had a provision for operating the CAN pins in general-purpose I/O mode. Since the 2833x device has a dedicated set of registers for GPIO function, this particular feature of the eCAN module was marked as “Reserved”. When the bit is 0, the CAN pins are enabled for the aforementioned (reserved) GPIO function. However, even when the bit is 0, the CANRX pin is still connected to the CAN circuitry on the chip. This is the reason your code worked fine even when you did not configure that register.
