TMS320F28377D Advisory "ADC: ADC Linearity Trim in 12-bit Mode"

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMS320F28377D, CONTROLSUITE

Dear,

Could you please give me your advice?

Device: TMS320F28377D

sprz412b says following in "ADC: ADC Linearity Trim in 12-bit Mode" section, Workaround: When using 12-bit mode, write 0x0000.0000 to the six linearity trim registers, ADCINLTRIM1 through ADCINLTRIM6.  This should be done for each 12-bit ADC

While I'm using the ADC that be switching both 12-bit mode and 16-bit mode.

Question:
I understand Advisory says I should not write 0x0000.0000 on 16-bit mode.  But I'm not sure whether 16-bit mode have something trouble in trim registers are cleared at 12-bit mode.

Should I do following for this Advisory?

using 12-bit mode: clear (write 0x0000.0000 to the six linearity trim resisters) => using 16-bit mode: write back data => using 12-bit mode: clear (write 0x0000.0000 to the six linearity trim resisters) ...

Or I can use ADC that be switching both 12-bit mode and 16-bit mode without "using 16-bit mode: write back data"?

Best regards,
Okayama

  • Okayama,

Yeah, you have the correct understanding.

In the next revision of ControlSUITE we will provide a function for setting the resolution (and signal mode) that will take care of swapping out the trims as needed. We will recommend that you use this function to set the resolution once it is released.

Also note that all units that have shipped so far do not have any linearity trim programmed. Because of this, you don't have to worry about zeroing out the trim registers because they will already be all 0s for currently released devices.
