Guide to choose controller (Tiva or Picolo lanch pad)

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC2564, LAUNCHXL-TMS57004, MSP-EXP430FR5969, EK-TM4C1294XL

Hi , thanks in advance for helping and share the knowledge,

I am doing medical application project. Please guide to choose the controller for the mentioned project

Transmittance type PPG (Photopleysmography) sensor placed on the finger tip which can be used to detect pulse
rate,  Oxygen Saturation (SpO2)  using TI AFE and acquired data need to processed by the controller and parameter values will be send to the user’s smart phone via bluetooth(TI CC2564).

Techniques used: Digital signal processing

Please share the suggestions

  • Hi Dinesh,

Can you specify, what all peripherals you'll requiring (if possible with numbers)? Also, how much processing capability do you require?

    Regards,

    Gautam

  • Hi Gautam, thanks for helping and sharing the knowledge.

    Peripherals : I2C -2 , SPI, UART - 3, ADC

Processing capability : DSP techniques like Filters (FIR,IIR,Adaptive)

    Please share the suggestions

All of the above is very much possible with the Delfino Controllers esp. F28377S/D* & F28335. Do check these devices out and compare their datasheets.

    S- Single Core

    D- Dual Core

  • Hi, Gautam. thanks for helping

but i can choose one of the following controller for my application

    LAUNCHXL-F28027
    LAUNCHXL-TMS57004
    MSP-EXP430FR5969
    EK-TM4C1294XL

    Please share the suggestions

F28027 has only 1 SCI port whereas you require 3 of them. Also, its a fixed point controller; though it can be used for the above computations but I'm not sure with what memory you'll be left with later ...!

TIVA series is powerful enough to handle the above and would be better at performance if compared with F28027 & the msp430 part.

This Hercules Kit is made specially for security applications and it would make less sense to use it here.

  • Hi Gautam, thanks for helping and sharing the knowledge :)

With your guidance, i selected the EK-TM4C1294XL but have the one doubt (please read next point)

In this application ( please refer the first post )  datas  (Hex data / ASCII values) in the acquisition module(Tiva with Bluetooth)  will be send to the user’s smart phone via bluetooth (TI CC2564). So to interface CC2564 with Tiva (EK-TM4C1294XL) , should Tiva loaded with Bluetooth stack.(I am new to Bluetooth module)

Is Bluetooth stack is Microcontroller dependent?

Please suggest some documents to learn bluetooth chip interface and adding the Bluetooth stack to the Tiva CCS project

    thanks for guiding

  • Hi Dinesh,

For TIVA  you can refer this stack and documentation present here:

    http://www.ti.com/tool/tibluetoothstack-sdk

Here at TI they've been customized as for TIVA and MSP430, as you'll be able to observe in the above link.
