LAUNCHXL-F28027F Improvements

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LAUNCHXL-F28027F, BOOSTXL-DRV8301, TMS320F28027, TMS320F28069

Hello,

I just ran through all of the tutorials for the LAUNCHXL-F28027F and was wondering why the MOTION sections could not be used for this device?

A second question: I am wondering what is limiting the max voltage on the LAUNCHXL-F28027F to 24V? I took a look at the bill of materials and didn't see much that is preventing it from going higher (the FETs are rated to 60V)?

Thanks!

  • To accommodate a higher voltage on the BOOSTXL-DRV8301 it seems like I would need to:

    - swap out the voltage sense resistors R37 - R42
    - modify the USER_ADC_FULL_SCALE_VOLTAGE_V parameter in user.h

Any other considerations that would be good to know about?

This is because of the chip limitation (TMS320F28027F). The library inside the chip is only for InstaSPIN-FOC. You need 'M' type of chip, such as TMS320F28069M, to use InstaSPIN-FOC and MOTION.

I am not sure I am correct but this launchpad is the controller, separate from the booster pack. The one that you should consider is the booster pack (the DRV) if you want to increase the voltage.

    Best regards,

The BOOSTXL-DRV8301 was limited to 24V and 10A by design.  Thermally the 240W continuous is in the upper range of what you handle on this PCB. If you wanted to go higher wattage you would need a larger PCB or heat sinking (which is very common in small inverters for hobby / e-bike, etc.).
