C2000 LaunchPad Oscillator questions

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMS320F28027

Hi Forum

Can you provide me with the following information for the main oscillator of the C2000 LaunchPad board?

(1) Is it a RC oscillator or a crystal oscillator?

(2) Is it internal or external to the microcontroller?

(3) If external then is it part of the high-end-timer unit or a separate crystal?

(4) What Is the stability and accuracy of the oscillator?

(5) If the main oscillator does not meet my needs with respect to stability and accuracy can an external oscillator be easily connected to the Hercules board?

Thank you!

Daniel

There's no external crystal on launchpad.

On launchpad they use the On-chip crystal-oscillator.

    Nope, its internal

    Refer: 0876.oscillator.pdf

For more info: you can refer the datasheet of TMS320F28027

I guess, you were talking about C2000 launchpad - from where did Hercules dropped in?

Anyways, if you wanted info for C2000 launchpad then yes an external oscillator can be easily connected. Only before shortlisting the part go through the datasheet thoroughly.

You stated that LaunchPad does not use an external crystal but I have information from another thread concerning the Hercules LaunchPad board that an external crystal is used for that LaunchPad board.

Daniel, you seem to be confused! C2000 launchpad is a different entity & Hercules launchpad is a different entity!

Don't mix them. Hercules launchpad has one but C2000 doesn't!

    Gautam

  • I am simply clarifying that some LaunchPad boards do have external crystals. No confusion.

  • Can anybody help me find the Stability and accuracy information for the C2000 LaunchPad board?

  • Hi Dan,

See the F2802x device datasheet.  You can get 1% accuracy with active temperature compensation, or something around 4.5% accuracy without compensation.
