TMDSPLCKIT-V3 PLC G3 PHY parameter "Level" and "Mask"

Good day,

In the Intermediate GUI there is an option for the G3 firmware of the TMDSPLCKIT-V3, which are called "Level" and "Mask".

1. "Level" definitely I do not get what it does. In the documentation of TI the description for it says only: "From 0 to 32, with 32 the maximum".

2. "Mask" I understand allows selecting some of the sub-carriers.  It would have sense with the options CENELEC A 36 and CENELEC A 25, since I understand G3 works in the CENELEC A band exclusively.  Nevertheless I do not understand the options CENELEC B, BC and BCD.

3. Why it is said that G3 is more flexible than PRIME regarding the frequency. I see that G3 is also  fixed to the CENELEC A band.

Thank you for the help!!!

Sincerely,

"32" level option corresponds to maximum power given by transmitter to the line,  "0" corresponds to minimum level. Refer please to G3 phy API 2211.TI_plcSUITE_G3_phy_api.pdf and pay attention to ch.2.4, 2.5.

Generally according specification the G3 physical layer provides all CENELEC band: 3-148.5 kHz (4135.G3_Specifications_ low_ layers.pdf). Furthermore G3-FCC version operates over band 35~500 kHz (5481.Flexible-PLC-solution-using-C2000.pdf2654.TI_plc_g3.pdf). Thus CENELEC B,BC, DCD options is provided by G3 physical layer as well. Here there is the main question of used band that is standardized for one or another region (Asia, Europe, US etc.)

When you will look at G3 phy API description and PRIME phy API description then you can pay attention that PRIME doesn't allow change a tone mask of OFDM. This option is provided by G3 only.

  • Hallo Igor,

Thank you very much again for your help. As usual fast and straight to the point!!

  • Diego,

I was glad to help you. When you begin to develop any new for yourself technologies then an information  support is needed particularly. As rule the info is presented in correspond documents but information field is too large to easy & quickly navigate in one. And sometimes Google is useless ;-)

    Good luck,

    Regards,

    Igor
