SJA1000 CAN Interface

hi..

i am working with a processor (TMS320F28335PGFA) as i am using SJA1000 CAN controller for interfacing with TJA1054T transceiver but i am confused how i can connect SJA1000 controller with above given processor? Please help me with a pin diagram so that it would be easily understandable.

  • Hi Samreen,

You can refer this document (schematic) for sample connections with a different CAN transceiver: c2000.spectrumdigital.com/.../ezdspf28335_schem.pdf

    Regards,
    Gautam

  • Samreen,

Gautam's answer is a bit misleading, since it explains how to connect a F28335 with a CAN transceiver.

If I understand your question correct, then you'd like to connect a Philips/NXP-SJA1000 with a F28335.
A SJA1000 is a standalone CAN-Communication Controller, which can be connected to any controller (incl. 28335) with the help of its 8 Address/data lines and 7 more control lines. In short - you'd need an 8-bit- parallel interface, which can be done with 15 GPIO's or, probably smarter, with the external memory interface in 8-Bit-Mode.

However, I am sure that you know that the 28335 have two integrated CAN-CC, so I am curious, what would be the benefit of using an external SJA1000 (a Philips device dated from 2004) as CAN-CC? Is it the "Pelican-Mode"? Most of the "Pelican"-Features are also available in the internal 28335-CAN.

@Frank, sorry that you felt that my answer was "mis-leading". All I wanted to indicate is a different configuration where Samreen can avoid the above SJA1000 part number itself and use the transceiver mentioned in the above schematics to reduce the development time.
