Code Composer Version: 6.1.0.00104 C2000v6.5 compiler issue.

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MOTORWARE, CONTROLSUITE

Hello and thanks in advance for your help in this matter.

I just updated motorware and code composer to the latest versions and now I'm trying to open my first lab for "Lab 1 - CPU and Inverter Setup".

From CCS I tried to import the lab-1 as directed in the user guide:

InstaSPIN Projects and Labs User’s Guide
InstaSPIN-FOC & InstaSPIN-MOTION for F2802xF, F2805xF, F2805xM, F2806xF, F2806xM
Version 1.0.11"

I got the following error message:

Error: Import failed for project 'proj_lab01' because its compiler definition is not available. Please install the C2000v6.5 compiler before importing this project - click 'View > CCS App Center' to check if compiler updates are available, or install the compiler manually and register it with CCS through 'Preferences > CCS > Build > Compilers'.

I checked for an update using project - click 'View > CCS App Center' and it said it was up-to-date.

So I guess I need a solution, can someone please help?

Bruce

  • Try Help --> Check for Updates

    and download latest compiler.

This one is strange to me though...the projects in MW _14 use compiler 6.2.3 I believe. And I'm sure any version of CCSv6 has something more recent (6.4.4 is latest)

  • Hi Chris,

    Thanks for your help.

No updates are available. I was wondering if I may have not selected some additional installation during setup?

Here is what I had installed.

    Bruce

  • you should have everything you need.

I've seen this happen a few other times and I believe it usually ends up being a bad installation or a corrupted workspace.
try opening CCS and starting a new workspace.
if that does work, try uninstall / re-install CCS

here is a thread that is similar

  • Hey Chris,

I'm still unable to open 'proj_ lab01' due to supposed missing compiler...

"Error: Import failed for project 'proj_lab01' because its compiler definition is not available. Please install the C2000v6.5 compiler before importing this project - click 'View > CCS App Center' to check if compiler updates are available, or install the compiler manually and register it with CCS through 'Preferences > CCS > Build > Compilers'.

    Here's what I have in directory /ccsv6/tools/compiler/...
    ti-cgt-arm_5.2.2
    ti-cgt-arm_5.2.4
    ti-cgt-c2000_6.4.2
    ti-cgt-c2000_6.4.4

The app center says that the c2000 compiler is up-to-date.

Also any other labs other than that I have tried to import have worked the first import and I assume you only have to import them one initial time. If that be the case, how do I open those that have been imported for a new work session? I don't see any lab files in the 'workspace' but when I try to reopen a prior imported lab it tells me ...
" Error: A project with the name 'proj_lab02a' already exists in the workspace!"

I have my 'workspace' located at ti/workspace/...

I get the same error message for proj_lab02a, b, and c.

Now with proj_lab02d it imports it and the import window closes but I end up with a blank screen in CCS as if no projects are open and all tabs/views are closed.

What the heck am I doing wrong???

    Thanks,
    Bruce
  • you're not doing anything wrong...it's flaky CCS.

open a fresh CCS. When it comes to the splash screen for your workspace create a new one. then import. see if that solves (starting a new workspace seems to solve all sorts of CCS issues!)

    did that work?
  • Hi Chris,

    Yes that worked :)

    Thanks, Bruce

  • Hi Chris,

I was mistaken as I was able to "open" any lab but not "import" it :(

I have now uninstalled all software and removed the c:/ti/... directory and will do a fresh install but wondered if I should install the following in any preferred order?

    ControlSuite
    MotorWare
    CCS

I have also ignored a warning in the past to disable any 'real time' virus scanning, but will disable this next round to see if that was the cause of missing compilers corruption???

    Thanks, Bruce
  • Bruce,
the "turn off virus scan software" is really stupid isn't it? I can't even turn mine off on a TI corporate machine! I always just ignore and have only gotten a bad installation once...but I've seen it multiple times on the e2e forum.

there isn't any order you need to install things. I think any issue you are having is from a bad CCS install.

I'm sorry this is such a poor experience for you!
  • Hi Chris,

I reached out to the CCS forum and seems all I have installed is fine and that for some reason on the first lab 'proj_lab01 is using compiler v6.5 while all the other labs are using v6.2.3 and work fine. I guess that first lab is ahead of the version-ing game for some reason???

    See thread here: e2e.ti.com/.../1515617

Thanks for all your help :)

    Bruce
  • wow, that's really strange that only that one .ccsproject is incorrect.... certainly our fault. I've logged this and it will be fixed in the next release.

thanks so much for letting us know.
  • for posterity this effects two projects

    C:\ti\motorware\motorware_1_01_00_14\sw\solutions\instaspin_foc\boards\hvkit_rev1p1\f28x\f2806xF\projects\ccs5\proj_lab01\.ccsproject

both will be fixed in MotorWare _15
